One of the most fun ways to get a peek into another person’s life is to experience their city like a local would -- with a homebase in a their space. LifeSwap takes the fun of living how a stranger does one step further. We’ve teamed up with AirBnB to give you a taste of what it’s like to step into someone else’s shoes. We can safely say that this is the best giveaway of any SXSW party around.
Day 4 is about the word on every marketer’s mouth. Everyone’s focusing on it, but it’s not a focused word. What does it mean exactly? Why does it matter? And how do we do it right? Attend small group workshops about mobile ads, mobile responsive site and mobile app development. Learn about the rapid rise of mobile browsing (and what that means to us) in our interactive globe installation. And hear from Ruth McCarthy, Founder of Mobili Media, about how to get caught up -- and then get ahead.
She has exhibited installation, sculpture and drawing nationally and internationally. Recent site-related works have been installed at Artworks Loveland, The Soap Factory in Minneapolis, MN, The Loveland Feed and Grain in Colorado, and the Saugatuck Center for the Arts in Michigan. Her residency awards include the Barstow Artist-in-Residence; Ox-Bow; and ART342.
She questions different definitions in drawing – whether the work is larger three dimensional installation, smaller sculpture or more traditional two dimensional applications in drawings on paper. Her work examines the physical and psychological dimensions of space and not-so-familiar objects, often addressing architectural structures, the domestic setting through common construction materials, repurposed elements and nostalgic surfaces.
The Cabin No. 56 Gallery fundraiser is a one-day seasonal pop-up speakeasy slash art gallery that requires traveling on-foot to a wooded location within the San Gabriel Mountains. All senses are stimulated, creating a unique experience only this national forest and historic structure can provide.
Â
Each of the only four shows includes craft food and drink, oratory and live-music, celebrating the Spring Equinox, Summer Solstice, Fall Equinox and Winter Solstice - in that order. The project will only take place until the end of 2017.
At just 424 square feet in size, the gallery is off the grid and highly exclusive. Lighting is natural and ever changing. There is no electricity and no running water.
The effects put you in personal touch with each of the artworks, the canyon, and your fellow adventurers. You will celebrate being aware of the time and the season.
Â
Because of the small size and utilities, limited spots are available and carpooling is highly encouraged.Â
Guests can choose to hike in fellowship as a group, led by guides. It is an adventure completely unique unto itself in every way, impossible to replicate ever again.
There is no phone reception and you will disconnect until you reach the top of the canyon at the end of the evening.
Children are welcome to join you for free and dogs are also allowed but must remain on-leash ;) Please respect the leave-no-trace ethics when visiting the gallery.

Â
The Cabin No. 56 Gallery is a private and primitive 102 year-old cabin built sometime between 1914 and 1916 at the end of the East Fork of the Big Santa Anita Canyon in Angeles National Forest. It sits at approximately 3,300 feet and requires a 1.75 mile hike each way, in and out. You can only access the gallery on foot and guests must be in good physical shape to make the 45 to 60 minute journey each way.
Â
You should plan on the experience taking approximately 6 to 7 hours, although you may attend at any time during gallery hours if you're willing to hike in and out without guides. The path is very straightforward and is easy to follow and detailed maps and directions are provided with your reservation.
Â
Attire should be based on comfort for hiking and an instinctual awareness of the weather and the season.
Â
While you can self-park near the event on the mountain road or in the Chantry Flats parking lot, you will still need an Adventure Pass -- which can be purchased for $5.00 in advance at Santa Anita Wine & Spirits (1002 N Santa Anita Ave, Arcadia, CA 91006) at the bottom of the mountain. This is the fastest place to get one.
Â
If you forget to stop there, you can also buy one at the top of the mountain at the Adams Pack Station when you arrive (but allow some extra time as you may need to walk back to your vehicle to display the pass in your windshield).
Â
Limited reserved parking spots are available at the historic Adams Pack Station, located at the trailhead. The cost is $20 and can be added to your ticket or paid in cash at the gate, if there are still spots available when you arrive. You may be asked to leave your keys until you return.
Â
We highly encourage carpooling with other guests and taking as few vehicles as possible. Let us know if you're willing to host a ride or looking for one.
